Made famous by the ‘Queen of The Ring’ Sabine Schmitz’s appearance on Top Gear, the Nurburgring Nordschleife (or ‘Green Hell’ as named by Jackie Stewart) has a mind-boggling array of corners to master: tight, off-camber, blind, uphill, downhill and a number that look similar.

Even if you’ve driven this circuit on an Xbox or PlayStation you won’t believe what a challenge this track presents.

With so many corners, little run-off and some corners that look very similar, it’s not a surprise that this is the ultimate track driving challenge and one that any car enthusiast owes themselves to drive at least once in their lives.

Forget the famous Touristenfahrten (tourist) days where you can just arrive and drive (that means anyone in anything with wheels and without any idea of how to drive on a track!). Your best option is a proper private track day where numbers are limited and only cars are allowed. On these days, due to the length of the circuit, it can sometimes feel that you have your own private race track, and we all wish we had one of those!

Bonn Airport: 99Km (62 miles) 1Hr 5min drive.

Dusseldorf Airport: 152Km (94 miles) 1Hr 30min drive.

Frankfurt Airport: 164Km (102 miles) 1Hr 30min drive.

It’s easy to combine a trip to the Nurburgring with a visit to Spa-Francorchamps, allowing you to experience the two best circuits that Europe has to offer in one trip (depending on the date you book).

Spa-Francorchamps: 108Km (67 miles) 1Hr 25min drive.

Hockenheimring: 216Km (134 miles) 1Hr 55min drive.
